This game is a PS4 exclusive. That's not why I'm talking about it today. I'm bringing it up because it looks like one of the most revolutionary games in the history of gaming.
Check this out, it's 10 minutes long but it's worth it:
This is really cool. Having a true "if you see it, you can go there" feeling is a very awesome concept that's finally going to be realized if this game is all it's cracked up to be. I hope it is. It would change what we expect games to be forever.

One thing I'd love to be able to do is to set up my own home-base to work from for exploring nearby planets... Or maybe have some sort of mothership that I can land on and walk around

What I love about Hello Games approach is that they arnt revealing everything before launch. They have gone to talk about how it's so easy to spoil the experience these days and play through most of the game waiting for that part you saw in the trailer. That, and the fact that they want to support this game for years after launch really makes my admire this developer.
I read the cover story in Edge Magazine about these guys and I was really taken aback when they began to stress the importance on an ending to the game and how it's important to be able to further explore and play in the world after those credits roll. It's rare that a developer acknowledges the importance of what's considering by some to be elementary and yet, rarely practiced in developing a game of this scale. Your ship for instance, will begin to show signs of use and wear and become a sort of companion. If you wander off too far and lose the ship you can call on it to autopilot it's way to you.
This and so many other things make it feel like these guys from our generation that grew up with these outer space flight sims and action/adventure games like Zelda and GTA are boldly trying to make that game we all wanted our favorite games to be. No invisible walls, no boarders, no limits. Very cool.

It looks awesome but I worry that quantity wont equal quality.

Me too, but just getting this game to work the way they want it to would be a feat.
