I'd be thinking about your dark squared bishop right now. Is he going to fianchetto to b2 or are you going to play d4 hoping for a pawn trade which unblocks the diagonal that the bishop is currently on? Always think of where your pieces want to go before you commit your pawns to moving to particular places.
Not that I'm implying that you're already screwed or anything. 1. e3 is the 3rd most popular opening for white. It's a stealthy move that temporarily conceals white's intentions.

Haha, well it's actually good practice to play a bunch of different openings. It makes you more comfortable with all sorts of pawn structures. I play the same openings every time if possible, which makes me good at them, but less familiar with different styles.

I'm hanging out at my local university and going to a chess club all day, so I won't be making moves till 10.

Apparently at some point they're doing a workshop on how to mate with KQvK, so I'm pretty sure I'll be fine. I learned how to mate with KBB vs K recently. That's pretty fun. Edit: Oh, you mean the excessive time. It's from 7-10 but I've just been hanging out here all day since it's raining a lot.

It hardly rained at all for the first month I was here. I was starting to think rain wasn't a thing in the UK.

I have dragged this out long enough, I can't really pin point where I went wrong with this one.... I thought it was pretty even.

I thought I had a strong lead the whole game. Analysis: Move 2 (White): Apparently something's not ideal about the queenside fianchetto. Maybe it just breaks the general rule of never letting your opponent get a pair of pawns in the center, which I accomplished on my next turn. Sorry to mislead you by mistake. Move 4 (White): Evidently it's already tricky to make decisions at this point, as d4 was the 3rd best move at -60. Nf3 was at -20, and Bc5, pinning the knight, was at +4. I think that as soon as the opponent has a pair of pawns in the center, things automatically go poorly. Move 4 (Black): Black pushes e4, trying to avoid the exchange so that white's dark-squared bishop will be blocked in by its own pawn. This is a mistake, though, because if white pushes c4 on his next turn, then the e4 pawn will be stranded and vulnerable for the rest of the game. Also, when one has a pair of pawns in the center, they really shouldn't push either of them unless absolutely necessary. Move 5 (White): But white instead plays Nc3, which prevents the C pawn from making this important advance. Move 8 & 9 (White): When white's queen is threatened, he moves it into more danger, making sure that black can develop his pieces with tempo. Queens should be behind their minor pieces, not in front of them. At this point, black's pieces are very well developed and white's aren't. Also, black is safely castled while white isn't even close to castling and his kingside isn't a very good fortress because only the g2 and h2 pawns remain. Considering these factors, black is basically winning. I think those are the 2 things you need to ensure next game. Castle kingside with a good 3 pawns in front. Develop all of your pieces in order to connect your rooks.

Nope, I can still castle. If you put someone in check and they block it with another piece, then can still castle later.
