This is a mini review I wrote a year ago about Skyrim when I was sucked into it at the time.
I'm writing this review pretty late and you have probably made up your mind about the game so I will just share a spoiler free experience with you that convinced me that this game was well worth the money and definitly with my time.
I'm a level 3 Nord and about 3 quests into the game when this happens.
I walk into a village and a strange shadow passes over me. I look around and up into the sky to see nothing. Then the village police draw there bows for no apparent reason. They run behind one of the houses and then you hear it. The dragon roars, and then it gets epic. I switch from my sword to my bow and sprint around the house to get my first glimpse of a dragon just toasting these villagers with his breath and I put two arrows in him. He then shoots up into the sky and circles around me. The villagers are in a panic and I find myself a soldier among soldiers protecting a town I'm only just discovering from a truly awe inspiring danger. Two minutes and 10 well placed arrows later the dragon plunges to the ground with a crash of dirt and rock and deteriorates in front of my eyes. And I feel like I could conquer the world.
This wasn't scripted either. These things happen randomly and the number of dragons in the world is infinite. It will suck your life away as any Elder Scrolls game worth it's name will but the difference between Oblivion and this title is huge. This is one of the best games I have ever played on the Xbox 360. I give it a 10/10. Check it out if you have the time.

I only played Morrowind and Oblivion and they were both solid games but had some glaring flaws. Especially how bad the frame-rate was in Oblivion. Skyrim is almost a perfected formula. IMO.

No. Not at all. It's a somewhat generic fantasy world with dwarves, elves, orcs ets. It's extremely deep though, don't get my wrong.

I think the Games on Demand version is on sale this week on Xbos Live. $20. Well worth it.

It will suck your life away as any Elder Scrolls game worth it's name will
This is why I will never play it, I have too many things sucking my life away right now (thats what she said) but really I have far to many games to play that I havent finished..... I guess I could just not complete the games I already own but then who would respect me? would you?

I would. You never really beat Skyrim, you just burn out. There is no shame in dabbling in Skyrim.

Understandable. You might be missing out but in this case I don't blame you for steering clear.

I disagree with you guys.
I absolutely hate the leveling and progression system in this game. Since pretty much all monsters are leveled to your character, it feels like you never make any progress in the game. Putting effort into increasing combat skills only serves to level up the monsters that surround you.
I really prefer RPGs which present you with a quest which absolutely kicks your ass at a low level. After lots of training and hard work, you become strong enough to take on the challenge. When you finally beat the quest, you feel a sense of satisfaction. This is not present in neither Oblivion nor Skyrim.
Also, as large as the world is, it feels like there's just not enough reason to explore. Things are so same-y. If the world was a lot more condensed and filled with goodies, I'd be much more willing to run around forests for hours.

Thought I would point out that it's been announced that there will be no more DLC for this game. After roughly a year and a half, major support for this game is over. Patches will still be implemented but I must say that's great when you consider it's a single-player experience. The full list of DLC for the game is: Dawngaurd Hearthfire Dragonborn
If you havent got the game yet it might be wise to wait till the end of the year because now that DLC has officialy stopped a GOTY edition with all the DLC's is expected in time for the new year. It may go for full price but is well worth twice that IMO.

this game borrowed heavily from the song of ice and fire series (or game of thrones if you watch television). but is that a bad thing? of course it isn't. I personally liked the borrowed parts and they actually felt borrowed rather then ripped off.
