Yeah. Destiny as a franchise, provided it sells well enough, might be a hard fact of life for this next generation. Weather you like it or not it's probably here to stay until it stops generating a cash flow to Activision. They recently killed off Neversoft as a developer and merged the few remaining employees into Infinity Ward.
I remember Neversoft as the Infinity Ward of the Xbox/PS2/NGC generation. With Activision as a publisher they cranked our quality Tony Hawk titles year after year for a decade...
by that logic Activision may just give up the ghost on COD by 2017ish. I mean, most people didn't know COD till 2007 and judging by the reception of Ghosts it looks like the franchise is on the downward. Three more years!

Looking at Halo 4 and Destiny I would take Halo 4 on gameplay just because it's still halo if only barely. The reliance on ADS is a huge game changer. I'm almost convinced a game with ADS requires it to play them most effectively.
I just don't want ADS. The presence of that very mechanic puts you into a style of game play you can't escape. I tried playing COD multiplayer without ADS and it's impossible to really excel on most maps when the game insists upon it. I imagine it's that way with every game that has it. I know I sound like a irate old man but I can remember seeing a player from across the map in Goldeneye (pistols only) and never feeling the need to ADS for a better shot. Same goes for Halo to an extent. It was a rush to find an enemy and we frantically start a fire fight.

I actually had the chance to try this about a month ago when it was in alpha. Hate to be cynical about a Bungie game, but I wasn't too impressed. It really did feel like Borderlands with a different aesthetic; considering I dislike BLs that's not a very flattering comparison. If you like that franchise though you'll like this.

Tag. The addictive quality of unlocking things for everything you did in Reach is increased five-fold in Destiny. That is the appeal I think. Haven't played it get but I would be doing injustice to Bungies track record by not at least trying it out. I gave Halo 4 a try so I think I can do this.
