I suppose it's time we start a thread on this game.
I'm genuinely excited to see what kind of game this is. I wouldn't mind a full on run n gun like the original. Light on story heavy on carnage. We'll see, at E3.

Honestly, I say I'm excited but much like Wolfenstein:TNO. When launch day comes, I probably won't buy it. For all it's promises, these games kind feel like story heavey stand alone COD campaigns. I mean maybe if it had more options I would be more interested. I'm slowly discovering that an FPS without a social element just isnt for me. Metroid Prime, Bioshock etc.
I'm not opposed to it but if all a FPS game has to offer is a 40 hour campaign then it's really hard to justify a purchase. These games look awesome on paper, AND in practice but ultimately, it's a fleeting experience.
I have more to explain on this but I need to go. TTYL DUDES!

So what you are saying is if it had co-op you would be more likely to buy it?

Yeah. Just something that made it a bit more social. Theres something about killing heaps upon heaps of enemies, alone, that just takes the sport out of it for lack of a better term.
Even a great FPS like Far Cry Blood Dragon eventually hits a wall it can't hope to scale when you finish the game and you realize, that that's it. That's all. Game over, man. Game over.
The ride is great but the lasting appeal is null.

Eh, the only Doom I ever played was Doom 3 and it was rather dull. Then again, I'm the kind of person who finds story more important than mindless slaughter so...
Put me down for the "not interested" category.

I want there to be more single player only games in the future mainly because outside of my family and goldenedge interacting with other people is not something i'm a fan of.

I don't mind multiplayer, in fact I think it's really cool. But I'd by lying if I said that singleplayer hasn't been sacrificed for multiplayer for a while now.
Singleplayer needs the love it got 10 years ago.

People would love to argue this, but it's remarkable, just the fact that games like Halo and COD haven't gone to a multiplayer only model.
Personally, I don't need an Oscar worthy story campaign in my shooter game. It's just even when that's all you have, ala Bioshock Infinite, it falls into the negative side of that defining question, "What are you STILL playing?".
When I think of all the AAA, best selling shooters of all time, they all have something in common. At the very least, a single-player and a multiplayer mode to them. Whether it's everything and the kitchen sink like Perfect Dark, a bit more modest like Halo Reach, or modest still like in recent COD games, the numbers don't lie.
When I'm done with that single-player, the only thing that brings me back is a co-op element. If thats not present than it's off to the multiplayer, if that doesn't keep my interest, the game is dead.
So as much as I love the throwback approach they take with these games, I can't help but question if their even worth the $59.99 asking price.
---------------------------------------------
I guess when I think of an era defining game in my life, it's almost always a game that's popular enough with friends to keep our attention for months on end. It's kinda why an RPG that I can really get into only comes around once ever 10 year or so. Really, like Pokemon, Skyrim, errr and thats about it. I only got into Skyrim because it's something my wife and i played in shifts. You have to play the majority of RPGs alone and there's a point where you look out the window on a sunny saturday afternoon and realize youve spent the entire day in a fantasy world, alone, and it's depressing.
It's pretty much about friends for me. I couldn't imagine it any other way. It's why I don't play GTAV on xbox 360 anymore, and why I STILL play Halo and COD. People are still playing, my friends are still playing, and as awesome as Doom and Wolfenstien are, I can't play them with friends, and the ride is only truly great the first time round.

New trailer!!!
This game is about speed. Not stop and pop, go hide behind cover waiting for health to regen. Very nice.

I get that vibe too, but then again, it looks like original doom. That's not a bad thing, just boring to watch. The map maker and game mode maker is pretty appealing. As far as I can tell no ADS regenerating health, etc. It's properly old school but not a scrounge for health packs way, you get health by killing enemies. Action gameplay promotes action, and gameplay. No slowing down.

I just wanted to highlight this and eat my words a bit.
Credit where credit is due. I've kinda kept it to myself. My level of excitement over the possibilities this game presents. I'm pretty sold on the gameplay side of things and the arena style of multiplayer could prove to be a breath of fresh air the FPS genere needs whne even the most popular arena shooters are looking more and more like Call of Duty. I say this because I sorta knocked this game earlier by saying that without multiplayer, it's so hobbled that I just don't see myself picking this one up. Well, it does have multiplayer, and a kind of survival (firefight/horde) mode as well. The gameplay combined with this social aspect has bumped this game up from being the "obligatory Wolfenstein successor", to this generations throw-back to a style of shooter that's being in-part phased out, and in a way, all but dead. I should also mention that provided I get this game, I have every intention of recreating Goldeneye/PerfectDark maps and scenarios thought the SnapMap feature. I'm approaching this with no allusions. I know that in doing this I'll likely end up with something thats 90% Doom and 10% Goldeneye, so I'm not being sold on this idea alone. Right now I'm already imagining doing a sort of Co-op of the Facility Single-player, with the bottling room serving as the arena where waves a demons would pour in until an certain number was slayed. Thats just one idea.
