the reason why I didn't really like mgsv's gameplay is because it didn't feel or play like a metal gear game, it played and controlled like most other big triple a sandbox games. also the base management detracted away from the game for me. and that's mainly because it forces you to do it, if you want a certain type of gun then you have to spend a long time gathering up soldiers to level up your r&d/support group and then after that's done you have to wait a long amount of time for it to develop. also the time it takes to arrive at the drop off point is to damn long and yes I know you can upgrade it to be faster but that's a good ways into the game. also if kojima wanted me to stay in the open world for long periods of time then he wouldn't have made the game harder if you didn't shower often.

Exactly why I loved the gameplay in MGS5! The amount of cool stuff you could do... Just saying. But outside of some of the tools at your disposal it's not really Metal Gear is it? If Far Cry 5 did what MGSV did people wouldn't be like "Hey you took that from Metal Gear Solid." The game doesn't play like MGS or feel like one, it kinda sounds like one but it's not really Metal Gear Solid V. But that opinion comes from someone that thinks Metal Gear Solid V also fails when it comes to the open world/free roam gameplay.

it would have been nice if the game had told me that. also for some reason when I tranq a soldier or kill someone from long distance i still get covered in blood.

The blood thing has to do with the Demon Snake system. If you kill enough people/animals the shrapnel in your head will spike like a horn and all the blood won't wash off. Short of developing a nuclear weapon, achieving Demon Snake isn't quick or easy. Don;t do it unless you like red.
I guess the difference between people that enjoy MGSV and those who don't is a cross between expectations and weather their met, and whether or not you can enjoy whats there. For example, I really enjoyed playing Resident Evil 4, but it certainly doesn't feel like a Resident Evil game. I think they should have stopped after RE3 but that's just me.
Point being, my expectations for RE4 were to answer any questions left unanswered by the previous games, and continue the legacy of great atmosphere and gameplay it's known for. The story was serviceable at best, focusing on Leon and Ashley and eventually reintroducing Ada and Wesker into the mix which only left me with more questions than answers.
Now I could have curses RE4s name and swore to never play it again, but the gameplay was so good that it had me playing through it three consecutive times. It was a very solid action game and I really enjoyed it, and it wasn't Resident Evil as i knew it, but I never let myself get hung up on that. I'm sad that Mikami didn't get to continue off of that game to possibly preserve the quality of the series, but as a swan song title for him, it was a memorable one of quality. Same goes for MGSV.

to each his own. but even on its terms I just don't like this game, it does nothing for the lore, and it streamlines allot of what made metal gear special to me, but I would be alright with that if the base management system didn't make the game horrifically boring.

I am looking forward to playing MGS4, I have never had a PS3 so I never got the chance to play it but at least I know there is still a classic MGS game out there waiting for me.

Be prepared for long cutscenes though, MGS4 is my favourite but some cutscenes literally go on for over an hour. I love it but I know that's not for everyone.

From one extreme to the other, MGSV didn't have enough cut scenes IMO. I am looking forward to the Shadow Moses part in MGS4. Anyway we should probably end tread on this topic. It has been interesting to hear everyones perspective on MGSV but I think we should move on to a different topic, whatever that might be.

Maybe we should all come back and talk about this game in a few months when we've had time for things to settle down and maybe played it alot. I'll say my peace: The message I keep getting is that MGSV was mediocre, and that is just not true, for me it was greater than the sum of it's parts. It problems are glaring, but what it does right is genuine. I spend most of the game in missions, doing all of the menu work on the ground, and only linger in the chopper to customize. The back and forth to the base is tedious and the heli rides can be as well, but can also be dodged and softened my upgrades, and doing all the mission tasks. I find that doing all the mission tasks can turn a 15min mission into a 45min mission, and that makes that 15sec heli ride feel like nothing. The short/repetitive side-ops are a different matter. DON'T JUDGE THE GAME ON SIDE OPS! They are stupidly repetitive padding and drag the best part of the game (the gameplay) down by becoming a mandatory chore. The main missions take the best parts of the fun side ops and put context to it all. If side ops wernt mandatory, and the availability of the best upgrades were made alittle more gradual, I think you wouldn't have to invest so much to see how good this game can be.

I like this, this has good vibes. We'll all say final thoughts and in a few months we'll come back to the topic. I'll play the game again, JMM will hopefully finish it and hopefully everyone else that has opinions on MGSV will either finish or play it again. So I'll give my final thoughts and I'll make it quick. I've probably done 100% of the tasks in about 15 of the missions and I personally didn't think it added that much, the side ops are pretty boring and apart from Kaz and Quiet the characters are incredibly dull and boring. The scarce nature of the story is disappointing considering it's a Metal Gear title and also makes the missions feel meaningless when all I get is a cassette tape or "valuable" information. The graphics are great! Yeah I like this. I'm excited, this is a great idea Blade Runner 07

It is going to be very hard to get excited about going back into the open world of MGSV after playing Fallout 4. The last thing I did was 4 mine clearing side missions and I was all "what time is it?" I need/want to complete MGSV before I continue my series tribute but for now I am stuck on Fallout 4 so my next tribute is a different game altogether. To be continued.

The mine clearing missions are without a doubt, the most tedious waste of time in that game. More so than the Wondering Puppets missions. I will say that once I completed all of them, I never went back. I play MGSV maybe once a week and I havent played a side-op in two months. Also, if your playing MGSV for the open world, your playing it for the wrong reasons. Just saying.
I'm gonna get Fallout 4 eventually, I'm just afraid it will suck my life away. I let Skyrim do that, but that was a different time. Fallout could consume me.... Should I play Fallout 3 or New Vegas first? Or should I skip em both and jump into Fallout 4?
