Here is a can of worms I feel like opening on this thread, am I the only one who thinks Quite from MGSV is just a pair of tits and ass on legs? What did you think of her MGNoxa? I thought not being able to talk made her completely shallow compared to say Sniper Wolf in MGS1.

Here is a can of worms I feel like opening on this thread, am I the only one who thinks Quite from MGSV is just a pair of tits and ass on legs? What did you think of her MGNoxa? I thought not being able to talk made her completely shallow compared to say Sniper Wolf in MGS1. Ohohoho Dude you've opened a can of worms alright. I love Quiet she was easily the best thing about Metal Gear Solid V! We'll ignore her gameplay to keep things focused only on personality and looks. Right. Everything about Quiet is awesome, first off her looks are highly subjective I think she look incredibly badass, others may think silly that's each to their own. The way she walks and holds herself though is really cool, she's incredibly intense and graceful. This is thanks to Stefanie's motion capture because she was a model and she used her catwalk walk so when Quiet is walking about she moves with purpose. When Quiet first speaks in Navajo, that's when she became my favourite Metal Gear character. She's innocent and has been thrown into a situation, she was supposed to kill Big Boss but ended up falling for him and she will die for him. When she gets in the Helicopter and shoots down the Jet (so cool) she puts the handcuffs back on, Snake wasn't going to make her put them on but she does it anyway. After spending time on Mother Base she wants to join in on the missions, she wants to spend time with Snake, everything about Quiet is heartbreaking. I can't go into why without massive spoilers but what she does is amazing. Then you have the imagery and symbolism. She likes the Butterfly, before she was someone trying to kill Snake after her rebirth she's a new person, then there's more symbolism with what's wrong with her and why she can't speak which relates to Butterflies but I can't say without Spoilers. There's a scene in her final mission when she is wearing clothes and she gets out of them inside a burning building and swaps back to her "Naked" outfit more rebirth symbolism. Her final mission in the game is emotional and the only part of the game that feels like an ending. As for the reason she's "Naked" it's because her powers mean she can't wear clothes without suffocating, same for being submerged in water. many have said that's just an excuse to have a bikini girl run around. It is. However Hideo Kojima when he said there's a good reason for it, he didn't mean the story explains why she's "Naked" Quiet is supposed to be an antithesis to characters like the women of Dead or Alive. The Women of Dead or Alive are sexy to be sexy, Christie is really the only one who has a personality that explains her attire, the rest are wearing slutty ninja outfits just because it's sexy or cool or whatever. Important to note Men are the reason they are wearing these outfits. So we have Quiet, a character designed by a Man, in her story she can't wear clothes because of a Man and the men around her take almost no notice of the fact she's wearing a bikini and fishnets. This is a commentary on the passive sexism of objectifying women, she looks out of place stood next to the male characters because she's supposed to look out of place. There's also a counter theory to this. Quiet is supposed to be the definition of Feminism. Everything is done to her by men in and out of the game. At the end of the game she finally becomes herself emerging from the Burning Building, reborn as a new woman. A woman that is now no longer controlled by men, a woman that has accepted her attire. She's no longer Quiet the sexually objectified woman. This could be a commentary on Women having control of their lives, not having to worry of what men think, being able to do whatever they want without a Man saying no. Kinda what Feminism was before radical feminists started corrupting it. All in all Quiet is one of my favourite Metal Gear characters. She's powerful, badass and beautiful. {Spoiler}"I am Quiet... I am... The absence of words." If you aren't bothered about spoilers check out her ending. That's why she's my favourite!

I may have to reserve judgement because I have not completed the game yet but so far she hasn't said ANYTHING. I find it hard to imagine anyone without a voice having power, next to your face, your voice is your identity. In fact I would go so far as to say your voice and being able to communicate your opinions is more important to your identity than how you look. I come up against the "it's okay they explain that in the story" argument a lot in MGSV for different problems, whether they explain something is irrelevant the problem is still there.

I liked Quiet just being T and A, it felt honest. What irritated me was the feeble reason behind it. Breathes through her skin? Really?

She does play a big part in the gameplay as one of the best buddies you can take, and as probably the only real emotional weight in the story. Even if that wight is forced on you with a beautiful song a pretty face and everything MGNoxa mentioned. Quiet was naked for a reason and whether that reason is for T&A or because she can't breath otherwise, I think the game makes it painstakingly obvious that you are supposed to like her.
I just don't get why anyone would hate on her because shes naked. Her ending is pretty heartfelt and you feel sorry for her by the end. The story in general reinforces the revenge plot over and over again. Everyone you meet and feel close to ends up either dying or betraying you. Venom Snake can't afford to have a heart by the end of all of it. He's better off as the villain, because he has no other options. Nobody comes back from the dead in his world.

I can't help but feel my question has been misunderstood or we have all when off topic which is partly my fault. I want to know what you all think about Quite not being able to talk. For me that is much more degrading than showing a bit of flesh.

I think when Kojima said there's a good reason he didn't mean the reason given in the story, but if that is what he meant, if he thought that was a good reason then I agree it's a feeble reason. However if he mentioned nothing, if he said there was no reason, but the story still said she breathes through her skin would you have a problem with the reason in the story? Or is it simply because Kojima said there was a good reason? I like T and A in games, but I think Quiet is more than just T and A. A lot of the Dead or Alive women are just T and A and that's fine, what annoys me is (I can't think of a game off the top of my head) when T and A/fanservice get in the way, happens quite a lot in Anime which is a shame. I like Fanservice when it happens but not during intense or emotional scenes, let me get lost in the moment.

For me that is much more degrading than showing a bit of flesh. I don't think Quiet not being able to talk is degrading because it's a big part of her Character. I probably didn't explain it properly in my last post about Quiet but her not being able to talk fits the theme of the game, as well as adding mystery to a character that needed the Mystery. Stefanie Joosten isn't a voice actress she's a model, her playing a Character that's can't talk is ideal because she probably can't act at least not as well as the other VA's in MGSV. What do Model's do? They use their body, some are better than others at the whole body performance art, non speaking commercials and stuff, but with Hideo Kojima directing he's going to use that and he did. I think the new Fantastic Four is pretty degrading to Sue Storm. She's a big part of the team but when they decide to cross over to the new dimension, all the guys don't even think to ask her and considering their speech before they cross was "The engineers are never remembered" I think that's pretty gross, more than a character not being able to speak. It's all about context, if Quiet wasn't aloud to speak because she was a woman, or she did speak but she was never taken as seriously as anyone else then I think you'd have a point.

What a boring topic. *YAWN* Then why comment? If it's boring to you it's boring to you, no need to address it to the world in order to feel superior.

Um. I think her not being able to talk makes her better because it makes her story work.... Is she a great character? IMO, not really, but better than some if only because we spend so much time with her.
Play the game. Wouldja?
To anyone who hasn't played the game, she's pretty much a sex object, and her story is weak enough you might not change your mind but cmon! Be a dear, pry your hands off of Fallout 4 for a few days and finish MGSV so we can have a real conversation about this.

I don't want to give that impression. If it was a man I would be asking the same question, here is my problem. When I played MGS1,2,3 before each boss fight the would be some cool dialogue where I would find out about the boss and then afterward the fight there would be some more dialogue where I would find out more about the boss. In MGSV Quite RANDOMLY shows up and a pretty weak boss fight IMO plays out. I heard one person say this is the best boss big in the game which doesn't fill me full of confidence for the rest of the game. "If it was a man I would be asking the same question" In fact I have asked the same questions, Snake hardly talks! and it really annoys me! Yes I know it's because he is venom snake but this is just example of "it's okay it's in the story" MGNoxa after watching your Halo 5 I am surprised the huge change in story/character dosen't annoy you more. People were pissed in MGS2 when they couldn't play as snake but they don't seem to mind in MGSV. Maybe I do just need to play it more but I get around 2 hours free time after work, 3 hours if I stay up past 1am. 4-5 hours in MGSV feels like a drop in the ocean.

People were pissed in MGS2 when they couldn't play as snake but they don't seem to mind in MGSV. Oh it does annoy me but we are talking about Quiet. If we are to talk about Ocelot or Snake, I could go on for days about why I hate what's happened. I could tell you why I hate the big twist. I'm not a fan of the gameplay either. Yes there's more freedom but I get bored in the open world because it's the same objective over and over, the crafting system (forgot what it's called) is stupid, I don't want to wait for over 1 hour to get a new gun I want it as soon as I purchase it. Most of the cutscenes are boring which is a shame for Metal Gear Solid, when I saw the opening I knew the game was going to disappoint me, I didn't like this meandering feel the cutscenes gave me. I shouldn't be shouting "Just do the thing!" within the first hour of the game. Can someone tell me why Ocelot is so out of character in this game? He's supposed to go From Metal Gear Solid 3 to MGS1 but the way he isn MGSV does not fit that one bit. I would've made a video on MGSV but my knowledge and understanding of the plot is... lacking. I know the basic plot, character's and a few of the subtle things but I don't understand everything or know everything so I felt that making a video on why the story was disappointing wouldn't be doing anyone justice. Also fuck cassete tapes, they are the worst idea ever to replace codecs. Why are so many important conversations being recorded? Oh and Quiet the best boss fight in the game? Hell no, there's one boss fight against 4 snipers which is better but when compared to The End or Sniper Wolf or The Wolf chick from MGS4 was it Crying Wolf? Anyway when compared to all those this game is incredibly disappointing. Even the boss fight against Sahelanthropus (I spelt that right on the first type Yay Me!) is nothing when compared to Rex or Ray. Also why is it so god damn advanced? It's possible there's something in the story which explains why the technology reverted back a decade or two by the time MGS1 happens but I don't know why and I don't know if there's a reason why.

MGSV has the best gameplay in the series. It's incredibly rare that an open-world game allows for a total stealth play style that actually works. I could probably write a book on how impressed I am with just how solid the gameplay is. So Kojima forgot to trim the fat, it's still the best when compared.
It's one of the first games since goldeneye as far as mission difficulty is layed out, and when you try to complete every task, it makes the story of that particular mission all the deeper and more engaging.
You go places and do things you would never think of doing the first time around, just get a 100% on the tasks and you'll see what I mean. Some missions go from a simple assassination the first time around to gathering Intel, foltoning a couple walkers, and listing to an entire conversation between two people, which requires you sneaking into the back of their truck and eventually tailing them through a complex before doing the only mandatory thing in the level which is assassinate the target, and get out.
I love it that this game does that. I beat the game and feel like I only saw half of it if that.
